Government Holds Discussions With IT Suppliers to Cut Costs

In a meeting with their top 20 IT suppliers, the Government will today be discussing and negotiating ways of reducing the cost of many projects, including IT initiatives.

Francis Maude, the minister for the cabinet office,will be discussing the issue with a whole host of IT suppliers, to try and find ways of cutting costs wihtout compromising the integrity of these projects.

Maude spoke out earlier this week in a speech to the think-tank Reform in London, stating that he will meet with the chief executives of the government's 20 largest suppliers in order to begin "renegotiating with them across everything that they do for government to get the cost down".

Maude commented, "The government has not before managed centrally the relationships with the biggest suppliers to government. We have not used the massive collective buying power of the government to drive down the cost of common goods and services."
